Hello My Name Is...
James Michael Richards
I am honored to serve my second year at North Douglas Elementary School as Assistant Principal. I am excited once again to work with a diverse community of learners and look forward to working with the community to coordinate a plan to meet the needs of our students.
This year I hope to build on a wealth of knowledge and experience received during my undergraduate and graduate preparation programs. I received my teaching credentials through the University of West Georgia’s Certification Program, earning a Master’s Degree and Specialist Degree in Special Education and my Educational Leadership Certification through the university’s Tier I Leadership Program. My career in education began in 2005 where I started as a teacher’s aide at Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood Georgia. I have taught one year in Dekalb County Schools at Cross Keys High School as an Interrelated Math Teacher, one year in Emanuel County Schools as a Self-Contain Math Teacher at Swainsboro Middle School, and 12 years in Douglas County Schools, 8 years at Turner Middle School as an Interrelated Math Teacher, 3 years at Douglas County High School as an Interrelated Math Teacher and SPED Department Chair and one year as Assistant Principal at North Douglas Elementary.
My wife, Deanna and I have 4 kids who keep us very busy. Jamiya 21 who attends University of West Georgia, James Jr. 19 who attends Southern Union Community College, Jada 17 a senior at Douglas County High School and Christian 14 a freshman at Douglas County High School. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with the family, traveling and coaching basketball at Douglas County High School and Elite Hoops Basketball Club.
