Greetings!!... I am

"COACH J"

 Baylor Stroud

Hello Everyone,

It is great to be here  at North Douglas Elementary School!  My name is JaMelia Baylor-Stroud, I am the health and physical education teacher as well as a dance coach. This is my second year serving the students and community here at NDES as a Coach but my 5th year at this wonderful school and 23rd year in education. The purpose of this page is to give you a brief background on myself and a general idea of my personal philosophy on education as it applies to Health and Physical Education.

I grew up in the North Carolina area, a busy suburban town named Raleigh.  I played sports and was very active throughout my childhood and still love to participate in a friendly game, no matter what sport, as an adult. I graduated from South Carolina State University in December of 1998 with a BS in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education and Theater Arts. My best memories are studying abroad in Ghana, West Africa, crowned Miss South Carolina State University and joining Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.. I moved to the Douglasville, Georgia area shortly thereafter. I am currently a local business owner of Anything but Ordinary Events and More, an intimate event space for all your needs. My husband Chris (also a PE major) and I married in March of 2002 and have four beautiful, active children, Christopher (17), Christian (15), Carlton (13) and Baylor (5).

In my classes I hope to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth, over a must win attitude. I find sport/exercise to be a great stress reliever, escape from frustrations, and an opportunity to strengthen ones self no matter winning or losing.  I believe in the value of arming kids with practical, lifelong health  & mental skills, that cross over subject matter and develop character.
