DCSS Names Six Teacher of the Year Semifinalists
August 15, 2024
Six standout educators from the Douglas County School System have been named semifinalists for 2024-25 DCSS Teacher of the Year.
Superintendent Trent North and other district administrators delivered the news to the teachers in their classrooms Thursday with a surprise Prize Patrol that included balloons and special personalized mini-chalkboards.
The semifinalists are:
High School
• Brooke Morris, Alexander High School
• Andrew Mulkey, New Manchester High School
Middle School
• Wynne Lougher, Chapel Hill Middle School
• Felicia Pope, Stewart Middle School
Elementary School
• Katie Plumley, Bill Arp Elementary School
• Michelle Hill, Winston Elementary School
The DCSS Teacher of the Year process begins in the spring, when all 35 school campuses select their Teacher of the Year. All 35 school TOTYs submit applications and letters of recommendation, which are scored by a panel of judges that consists of current school system employees and community members.
The six semifinalists will now undergo classroom observations and in-person interviews with the panel of judges. Three finalists — one at each level — and the overall District Teacher of the Year will be announced at the annual Teacher of the Year Banquet on Sept. 12 at the Alexander High School Performing Arts Center.
